|

Abstract
|
|
|
LORATADINE (Clarityne¢ç) is a long-acting H,-antagonist devoid of anticholinergic and sedative effects. We had administered LORATADINE orally to 30 patients who were confirmed with allergic rhinitis
by skin test, provocative test, eosinophilia in the nasal discharge and serum IgE, IgG test, for evaluating
of its clinical efficacy and side effects.
The results were as follow:
1. The mean duration of therapy was 11.1 days
2. The clinical efficacy of therapy was
Excellent in 9 cases (30%)
Good in 12 cases (40%) and overall therapeutic response was 21 cases (70%). 3. The mean action time of onset was 88.8 minutes.
4. The side effect was somnolence in only 1 case (3.3%)
5. There were no significant changes in all laboratory findings before and after administration of LORATADINE.
So, LORATADINE can be considered to be effective and safe anti H,-histamine with a rapid onset of action in allergic rhinitis.
